DO THE MATH (video below)
by Vivian Chinelli
(The following rhyme was inspired by my new young friend, Gus. The number “point 2” (.2) in the rhyme refers to the 1/5th of a pound of meat Gus calculated he’d consume a day if he didn’t go vegan. He multiplied that by the number of days from age 12 to age 80. And there you have it! This really cool kid figured out, mathematically,
why he had to go vegan!)
At age 12, young Gus,
was much more mature than most of us.
He saw a big problem
and stepped up to the plate (the dinner plate)
and changed what he ate.
He researched how animals were being mistreated.
Up went his hands asking, “What can I do?”
So he started calculating (he loved to do math).
Then he multiplied his days by the number, point 2.
If he lived to be 80, just think of the chickens and cows
that he’d save from the slaughterhouse grounds.
If he didn’t go vegan, in 68 years
he’d have eaten as much meat as 5,000 pounds!
Problem solved. He’d go vegan.
He would save so much money by not buying meat
and he’d spend it on things that were kind and not cruel.
Compassion into action. He’s such a role model
for all of us grown-ups who want to be “cool!”
